As usual for the weekend, Joffe has a couple of free books – one mystery and one romance. What’s not usual is that I’m getting around to posting these sometime before Sunday afternoon. Woo-hoo! These are ostensibly free just for today, Friday, but in practice are usually free through the weekend. You can probably figure out […]

I’ve haven’t read this personally, and series-continuations, or in this case, series-interpolations, can be tricky things. But Karla’s Choice, which is set in John le Carré’s Circus universe, and time-wise, in between The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, gets pretty good reviews, so I thought I’d post it. It’s

Georges Simenon’s classic Inspector Maigret books are being reissued in e-book format, and Humble Bundle has a collection of the first eighteen reissued books for just $18. That works out to just $1 per book if you need them all. (And if you haven’t read any Maigret books, then you definitely need them all
The White Mountain is the 18th and most recent (Sept 2025) in Robert Goldsborough’s estate-approved continuation of Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe/Archie Goodwin series. I’ve read several of these follow-on books, and have enjoyed all that I have read. Sure, there are some small differences, but nothing big enough to spoil my pleasure at having a

The Ambassador’s Wife is the first in the Inspector Samuel Tay series by Jake Needham. It is free right now at Kindle US and UK. I’ve read and enjoyed a couple of Needham’s Jack Shepherd titles, but not any of the ones in this series, so this has reminded me that I’ve got this one

The Complete Miss Marple Collection by Agatha Christie is $0.99 in the US right now. Per the blurb, this “gathers together all of Agatha Christie’s novels featuring her beloved intrepid investigator, Miss Marple”. And although I haven’t gone through and checked them off one-by-one, it looks to me as if this is all of

A while ago, it seemed that Joffe had perhaps gotten the rights to DB Borton’s Cat Caliban series, some of which I had read and liked in DTB many many years ago. And I had had a review copy of a re-issued version of the first book (albeit from a different publisher) a couple of

Today’s Big Deal at Kindle UK is thirteen Penguin Modern Classics books, with a decided bent towards mystery/spy/thriller titles, for £0.99 each. I’m travelling right now and don’t have time to figure out a Kobo UK link, but I spot checked five of these books and all were also on sale at Kobo UK. And

Today’s Big Deal at Kindle UK is the first six titles in Gyles Brandreth’s Victorian Murder Mystery series, on sale for £0.99 each. I haven’t read any of these books, which were originally published by Touchstone (part of Simon & Schuster) and are now published by Hodder & Stoughton (part of Hachette UK). So YMMV.
