Frederick Forsyth passed away 9 June 2025

Frederick Forsyth, Diamond Dagger winner and author of The Day of the Jackal, The Odessa File, The Dogs of War, and many more, passed away on June 9.   The Economist and The New York Times both have nice obituaries.   And although he tried to retire in 2016, he ended up writing another book, The Fox, published in 2018, and a sequel to The Odessa File, Revenge of Odessa, which will be published this November.

I was weaned more on classic mysteries, and The Day of the Jackal was one of the earliest thrillers that I read and really liked.   I’m still not much of a thriller person, but Forsyth’s books are among the exceptions.
