Humble Bundle has a deal right now on 30 books, mostly from the original Joe Leaphorn/Jim Chee series by Tony Hillerman, but also including all ten (so far) continuation/spin-off books from Hillerman’s daughter, Anne. These mostly feature Bernie Manuelito, but have lots of appearances by Chee, Leaphorn, and others. And the full bundle also includes Tony Hillerman’s wonderful non-series title, The Fly on the Wall, which is a seriously under-rated political thriller, IMO. And I don’t usually like political thrillers…
The way Humble Bundle works is that you can choose one of several different prices, and that determines how many of the items in the Bundle you will receive. In this case, to get all thirty books, you have to pay at least $18, which is a really good price for that many books, even if you already have some of them. You can also pay $10 to get eight books, or $3 to get four books. Sadly, you don’t get to choose the books in the smaller bundles – they are pre-chosen for you. But in this bundle, the choices actually make a bit of sense. (In some bundles, they don’t…) If you pick the $3 bundle, the four books you get are the first two in each series, while the eight books you get in the $10 bundle are the first four in each series. So if you’re not sure you’ll like the series, you can check each one out from the beginning. Both series are, however, really good. Both authors do a great job with the Southwest US settings, with the lives and issues of the Native American tribes in the area, and with the characters and plots overall. So if you haven’t tried either series, just go for the $18 bundle, and I think you’ll be happy! And you’ll have a lot of reading for your next vacation.
It’s also worth noting that you also have an opportunity to pay a little bit more, and have the balance go to a charity of Humble Bundle’s choosing. Info about which charity is currently receiving the donations from this Bundle is on the lower right side of the Bundle webpage. At the moment, it’s Trees, Water and People.
Here’s a link to the Bundle page, and my thanks to @saley-horse on the Mobile Read forums, whose post alerted me to this deal. Today is March 28, 2026 and the bundle is on offer for almost six more days.
