Many years ago, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, James Yaffe wrote a really fun series featuring Dave as the official protagonist. Dave is a former NY policeman who moves west after his wife passes away, and takes a job working for the public defender in a small town in Colorado. But perhaps more importantly, the series also very unofficially features Dave’s mother, Mom. And I’ll leave it up to you to figure out who does most of the figuring out on Dave’s new cases…
Right now, three of the four books in this far-too-short series are on sale in the US. I really wish there were more books in the series, but per SYKM, Yaffe passed away in 2017, so there won’t be…
A Nice Murder for Mom, #1, $0.50 at Kindle US, not on sale at Kobo US, but probably price-matchable

Mom Meets Her Maker, #2, $2.99 at Kindle US, not on sale at Kobo US, but probably price-matchable

Mom Among the Liars, #4, $2.99 at both Kindle US and Kobo US, and also discountable at Kobo US

Sadly, the third book, Mom Doth Murder Sleep, is a whopping $23.99 in e-book, and no decades old backlist is worth that much, even if it is a really fun series…
