75% off all e-books from the University of Chicago Press from 15 – 22 August 2022

Just got this email this morning:

From August 16 through August 23, enjoy 75% off all e-books from the University of Chicago Press and selected distributed publishers!
Enter code EBOOK75 at checkout on our website.

I haven’t tried this code for myself yet, but UChi is usually pretty good at doing what they say…

They have mostly academic non-fiction, as you’d expect. And their website is pretty easy to navigate by subject. They also have some fiction titles, including most or all of the Judge Dee series by Richard van Gulik (loosely based on a real historical character), the first three titles in Margaret Doody’s enjoyable Aristotle Detective (yes, that Aristotle) series, and a good chunk (maybe all) of Richard Stark’s Parker series (Stark was a pen name for Donald E Westlake).

UChi’s books tend to be a little pricey, so even at 75% off they are not super-cheap, but better than you will do most of the year.

More specifically, the Doody books do go on sale for $1.99 or $2.99 from time to time (and also similarly in the UK), so you’re probably better off waiting for those. Even at 75% off, they are more than $4 each via this sale. I post those here when I see them on sale. OTOH, the van Gulik books rarely go on sale, and even then, usually not much off, so I doubt you’ll do better than via this sale. And the Judge Dee series really is quite a charming series. Finally, I don’t follow the Stark books myself, but a fellow reader on another e-book forum I follow indicated that 75% off would give pretty good prices on those.

Here’s a link to the University of Chicago Press homepage.

And here are links to the three authors I mentioned: van Gulik | Doody | Stark

  1. University of Chicago is repeating this sale right now, in 2022, down to using the same coupon code (EBOOK75). The dates this year are Aug 15 – 22, 2022. The links in the OP are all still good…
