Magic Shifts and Magic Binds are the 8th and 9th in the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews – if you don’t count any of the novellas and short stories and stuff that weave in between the full length books. Even though I mostly read mysteries, I’ve become a fan of the urban fantasy author duo of Ilona Andrews, and really enjoy pretty much all of their books. These two are near the end of the KD series, so you might not want to start with them – there is a pretty significant story arc throughout the series.
