The Dr Davie books, by VC Clinton-Baddely, are on sale right now

Joffe Books appear to have gotten the e-rights to V.C. Clinton-Baddely’s five Dr Davie books, first published in the 1960s – 1970s. (Per SYKM, the author’s full name is Victor Vaughan Reynolds Geraint Clinton-Baddeley. Whew!) I remember reading these in paperback, but don’t remember much other than a general pleasant memory of the short series.

A review of Susan C Shea’s Murder Visits a French Village – coming soon

A fun mystery in an appealing setting… As I’ve mentioned on this blog a time or two, I’m a sucker for mysteries set in France, so I was thrilled to receive an advance review copy of Susan C Shea’s Murder Visits a French Village.  And I liked it a lot.  As the story opens, Ariel

A review of A Cold Day for Murder by Dana Stabenow

The book that started the Kate Shugak series… Dana Stabenow’s A Cold Day for Murder is the first book in her Kate Shugak series, which now runs to more than 20 titles.    And it’s quite a series-starter!   Stabenow’s love for her home state shows in her almost lyrical descriptions of Alaska:  its vistas, its geology,

A review of The Master of Mysteries by Gelett Burgess – recently published

A fun collection of period short mysteries… Way back in the early twentieth century, Gelett Burgess wrote a series of short mysteries featuring “Astro the Seer”.   Astro ostensibly uses his metaphysical and extrasensory talents, such as reading palms, calculating astrological profiles, and feeling magnetic vibrations, to help his clients.  But he doesn’t really rely on

The Spare Man by Mary Robinette Kowal is on sale in the US right now

The Spare Man by Mary Robinette Kowal is, per its blurb, a science-fictional twist on The Thin Man, and it’s on sale for $2.99 in the US. I’ve really liked some mysteries set in sci-fi settings, like Isaac Asimov’s Elijah Baley books, and Martha Wells’ Murderbot series. So I have my fingers crossed for this one!
